BENGALURU: A man who burnt two children to death after a failed rape attempt on their 23-year-old newly married aunt in the Durg District of Chhattisgarh, is on the run, said a senior police office in Raipur.
According to the police, the women successfully managed to escape from the rape attempt of Mahaveer, who lived near to her native village. But, to avenge his anger, he poured kerosene on her nephew and niece, Mohan and Bhuvaneshwari, who were three and six years old, respectively, and set them on fire. The children were burnt to death.
The incident occurred in Ghusidih village of Durg district, which is under Utai police station limits. The woman, a native of Khapri village, was residing with her in-laws at Ghusidih after her marriage, just a month back.
According to the woman, Mahaveer broke into the house in the afternoon and tried to rape her but, when he failed to do it, he committed the heinous crime, and then fled.
According to the police, they reached the spot soon after being informed about the incident. A criminal case has been registered against Mahaveer, who is on the run.
The police also added that the aunt of the two deceased children who escaped the rape attempt is being questioned.
