BENGALURU: BJP MP Hema Malini is showing no remorse over the accident involving her car that killed a 4-year old girl in Rajasthan as she today put the blame on the girl’s father who was driving the Maruthi Alto car on that fateful day.
Hema tweeted “How I wish the girl’s father had followed traffic rules, then this accident could have been averted and the little one’s life saved.”
Expressing shock over the tweet of the Bollywood actress turned politician, the father of the 4-year old Sonam said he was hurt by the MP’s remark and challenged her to come before him and say the same.
“Big people can say anything from anywhere… If she has the courage… she should come before me and say what she has to. I like to know from her one traffic rule that I violated… whether I was driving at very high speed, or whether I was on the wrong side, or I did not give an indicator… or I did not put seat belt,” he said.
“I feel very sad that Hemaji, an MP, has such a small ‘soch’ (thinking) that she tweeted that I was not following traffic rules,” said the father, who recuperating in the Trauma Hospital in Jaipur.
Hema Malini was hurt in the accident when her Mercedes had a head-on collision with the car in which Sonam and her family was travelling. Her driver was arrested by the Kotwali Police but was soon released on bail.
The girl’s father also asks the logic in the arrest of her driver if the mistake was on his part.
“My mistake was that I was driving at a very slow speed and her car was at high speed. Why was her driver arrested and released on bail? We have filed the case with the Kotwali Police Station in Dausa district,” he said.

The tweet did come across as inconsiderate, specially from a mother. There was no need for her to mention as to whose fault it was that caused this fatality and death of this little girl. Last thing a bereaving family needs in a wrongly worded or ill thought of tweet. Before Social Media, this kind of miscommunication did not exist. She could have released a statement of condolence and leave it that. She herself was injured in the accident and she would be the last person to comment on the accident. She should have left it to the court’s jurisdiction to find out as to who was a fault.
