BENGALURU: IRCTC or Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation was the most googled keyword of 2014 in India.
IRCTC is the agency managing the online ticket reservation of Indian Railways. The official website irctc.co.in is one of the most resourceful sites for people who travel via trains as they get updates regarding the arrival and departure of trains, booking status, tatkal booking etc. Interestingly PNR status, which also pertains to the railway ticket booking, has found the fifth position in the list of top five searched keyword on Google.
The second most googled keyword of 2014 is Flipkart, the online retailer based in Bengaluru that is currently valued at Rs. 69,000 crore ($11 Billion). Flipkart was founded by Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansa, two ex-amazon employees in 2007. What started off as an online book selling company is currently the largest electronics e-retailer in India and they recently acquired Myntra, another e-retailer that focused on fashion. With more than a hundred different categories to choose from, Flipkart is increasingly becoming the one stop solution for any product under starting from books to electronics equipment to kitchen utensils.
The third most searched keyword in India is SBI Online. SBI or State Bank of India is one of the biggest banking services in India and is a government owned Indian multinational, public sector banking and financial services company with headquarters in Mumbai. SBI online is the internet banking portal providing personal banking and corporate banking services to users giving full control over all their banking demands.
The fourth most googled keyword in India is Snapdeal. Snapdeal like Flipkart is an online retail store with headquarters in New Delhi. The company was started by Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal, in February 2010. Snapdeal is currently India’s largest online marketplace with more than 4 million products listed across diverse categories from over 50,000 sellers, shipping to 4,000 towns and cities in India.
