Founded by Princeton graduates James Evans, Vinay Ayyala and Richard Freling, Command AI will bring advanced AI capabilities to Amplitude’s digital analytics platform, enhancing user insights and personalization.
Amplitude Inc., a leading analytics software company, has acquired Command AI, a startup that offers AI-powered user assistance to simplify software use, the companies announced on Tuesday.
“The Command AI team will join Amplitude and continue to serve its current customers as it integrates with the Amplitude platform,” Amplitude stated in a press release.
Founded in 2014, Amplitude provides digital analytics software to more than 3,200 customers, including Atlassian, NBCUniversal, Under Armour, Shopify, and Jersey Mike’s.
Command AI, established in 2021—the same year Amplitude went public—by Princeton graduates James Evans, Richard Freling, and Vinay Ayyala, has developed a suite of products that integrate search functions into web applications, along with chatbot services and AI Co-Browsing capabilities.

Originally launched as CommandBar, Command AI has supported over 25 million end users and partnered with major organizations such as HashiCorp, Gusto, Yotpo, and LaunchDarkly.
Explaining the rationale behind the acquisition, Amplitude noted that Command AI has driven the next wave of digital adoption technology by focusing on improving the user experience and embedding AI directly into its products. The platform’s advanced AI tools can proactively assist or respond to user behavior, further strengthening Amplitude’s capabilities. This will enable customers to better understand user intent, access insights faster, and offer more personalized user experiences.
“Innovation is the biggest driver of growth for Amplitude,” said Amplitude CEO Spenser Skates. “We’ve been incredibly impressed by what the Command AI team has accomplished, particularly in the AI space. We’re excited to add their cutting-edge AI capabilities to our market-leading digital analytics platform.”
James Evans, co-founder of Command AI, reassured customers in a message posted on the Command AI website, stating, “The Command AI product remains operational and will continue to be indefinitely. Over time, we will migrate key infrastructure to Amplitude, so you may see some changes, but all of those will be communicated with plenty of lead time. There will be no disruption for your users; in fact, we think in the near term, things will be getting better for them.”
Vinay Ayyala, Command AI’s CTO, thanked investors and customers in a LinkedIn post, adding, “And the biggest thank you to our team for making this the best job in the world. I’m grateful we made it here, but even more grateful for all the memories along the way.”
