The Powerball jackpot rose to an estimated $1.3 billion Monday night after the winning numbers failed to appear. The numbers drawn were 8, 23, 25, 40, 53 with the Powerball 5. No one managed to match all these numbers since May 31, and this allowed the jackpot to reach $1.3 billion, making it the fifth largest prize in its history if there’s a winner by Wednesday night.
As ticket sales climbed during the past week, game officials raised the estimated Monday night jackpot to $1.1 billion before taxes. While there was no lucky jackpot winner, two ticket holders in Montana and North Carolina each won $2 million.
The payments for a jackpot will be spread over 30 years but a winner can also choose an immediate lump sum in cash before taxes, which now stands at $589 million. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.

“America has waited all year for the chance to play for a billion-dollar jackpot, and what better time than Labor Day for a $1.1 billion Powerball drawing!” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO. “With just one $2 ticket, you could win it all – all while helping to support good causes close to home.”
Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The largest ever Powerball prize was a $2.04 billion jackpot won in California in November 2022. This is followed by a $1.765 billion prize claimed in California in October 2023, and a $1.586 billion jackpot split among winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016. Other notable wins include the $1.326 billion Oregon prize, the $1.08 billion California win in July 2023, and prizes ranging from $842.4 million to $754.6 million won across Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts and Washington.

Wednesday’s jackpot would also come in as the ninth largest winner among all U.S. lottery jackpot games, according to Powerball. Drawings are broadcast live from Tallahassee, Florida, every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET and streamed on Powerball.com.
Monday’s Powerball drawing was the 40th drawing since the jackpot was last won in California on May 31. The longest Powerball jackpot run was 42 consecutive drawings, which was set on April 6, 2024, with a $1.326 billion jackpot winner in Oregon.
