It looks like USA Cricket is in trouble. The crisis in USA Cricket has deepened, with the USAC initiating bankruptcy proceedings on Wednesday as part of what it said was a structural reorganization.
USA Cricket (USAC) is the official governing body for cricket in the United States. Founded in 2017, USAC oversees the development, promotion, and regulation of cricket across the country. It is recognized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as the representative body for U.S. cricket and is responsible for organizing national teams, domestic leagues, and grassroots programs.
USAC’s mission is to grow cricket in the U.S. by building a strong infrastructure, improving governance, and creating pathways for players to compete internationally. It manages the U.S. men’s and women’s national teams, which participate in ICC events and regional competitions.
In recent years, USAC partnered with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) to launch Major League Cricket (MLC), a professional T20 league aimed at boosting cricket’s popularity and providing opportunities for domestic and international players.

However, USAC has faced significant challenges, including governance issues and financial disputes with ACE. In 2025, the ICC suspended USAC’s membership due to repeated governance failures. Additionally, USAC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as part of a restructuring effort to stabilize operations and resolve conflicts.
Despite these setbacks, USAC remains focused on promoting cricket’s growth in the diverse American sporting landscape, with hopes to establish the U.S. as a competitive cricketing nation in the years ahead.
Terming it as an “aggressive” and “legal” move, the USAC said it was necessary to “ensure the future of American cricket.”
“One factor to USA Cricket’s need for financial reorganization was the financial strain and operational interference caused by the ACE agreement,” USAC said in the release. “The original 50-year agreement, which heavily favors ACE, does not appear to have been completed at arm’s length as understood by the USA Cricket Board. It was negotiated largely by one USA Cricket Board member who did not disclose certain conflicts of interest that both he and his employer had with ACE affiliates.”
Despite the setbacks, there remains optimism within the cricket community about the sport’s future in the United States. The country’s diverse population and growing interest in cricket provide a strong foundation for long-term growth.

The development was made public in a media release where the USAC said it had “voluntarily” filed for the financial reorganisation under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy code. The USAC decision is concerning as it comes about a week since ICC suspended USAC on Sept. 23 for serious breaches of membership criteria.
The ongoing crisis in USA Cricket highlights significant challenges in governance, financial management, and organizational stability. The ICC’s suspension of USA Cricket due to governance failures and lack of progress with the U.S. Olympic Committee signals a loss of confidence from the global cricket authority. Meanwhile, the termination of the long-term agreement with American Cricket Enterprises (ACE) and the resulting legal battle reveal deep operational and financial conflicts within the sport’s administration in the U.S.
The Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing by USA Cricket reflects the urgent need for financial restructuring to ensure the survival and future growth of cricket in America. This turbulent period suggests that, without effective reforms and resolution of disputes, USA Cricket’s ability to develop the sport nationally and compete internationally could be at risk. The involvement of the ICC’s Normalization Committee and ongoing legal scrutiny show a path toward rebuilding, but much depends on transparent governance and clear financial accountability moving forward.
