President Donald Trump had some grandiose words to describe America in his State of the Union address. Trump boasted in his State of the Union address on Tuesday that he had ushered in “the golden age of America,” implying a successful presidential tenure so far despite sagging approval ratings and deepening voter frustration ahead of November’s midterm election.
“Our nation is back — bigger, better, richer and stronger than ever before,” said Trump.
He went on to admonish the Democrat opposition. “You should be ashamed,” he told Democrats, reportedly chastising them for refusing to fund the Department of Homeland Security unless measures are taken to curb the aggressive tactics of immigration agents under Trump.
In his State of the Union address, President Trump declared that “America is back,” describing what he called a historic turnaround after inheriting a nation in crisis. He emphasized that the country is approaching its 250th anniversary of independence and framed the present moment as a new “Golden Age of America.”

Trump asserted that his administration had achieved major improvements in just one year. He claimed the border is now fully secure, illegal immigration has stopped, fentanyl trafficking has significantly decreased, and the murder rate has seen a historic decline. He highlighted reductions in inflation, lower gasoline prices, falling mortgage rates, and strong stock market performance, noting record highs and rising retirement account balances.
On the economy, Trump contrasted his first year with the prior administration, claiming trillions of dollars in new investment commitments and substantial job growth, particularly in the private sector. He touted increased domestic energy production, deregulation efforts, and the elimination of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. He also promoted major tax reforms, including no taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security benefits, along with expanded child tax credits and new “Trump Accounts” investment plans for children.
Trump defended his use of tariffs, stating they generated significant revenue and strengthened America’s negotiating power abroad, despite a recent Supreme Court ruling he described as disappointing. He said alternative legal authorities would keep tariffs in place.
On healthcare, he criticized the Affordable Care Act and proposed redirecting funds from insurance companies directly to consumers. He promoted prescription drug price reforms under a “Most Favored Nation” policy, claiming it dramatically reduced costs. He also announced a “Ratepayer Protection Pledge” requiring tech companies to build their own power plants for AI data centers to avoid raising electricity costs.
Addressing housing, Trump announced actions to restrict large investment firms from buying single-family homes. He reaffirmed support for Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and proposed matching retirement contributions for workers without employer-sponsored plans. He called for banning congressional insider trading.
Immigration and crime were central themes. Trump pushed for stricter border enforcement, ending sanctuary cities, voter ID requirements, proof of citizenship for elections, and penalties for states granting licenses to undocumented immigrants. He shared stories of crime victims and praised law enforcement and National Guard deployments in major cities.
On foreign policy, Trump claimed to have ended multiple international conflicts and highlighted a strike on Iran’s nuclear program. He stated he is negotiating with Iran but will not allow it to obtain nuclear weapons. He also praised increased NATO defense spending and military recruitment.
The speech concluded with tributes to military heroes and civilians, celebration of American achievements, and a call for unity, patriotism, and continued national strength as the country approaches its 250th anniversary.
