A fresh rift has surfaced within Donald Trump’s support base after a senior intelligence official stepped down over the ongoing Iran war, with MAGA commentator Laura Loomer warning that more resignations could follow.
As Loomer wrote on X, “Notorious leaker Joe Kent just resigned from his role as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center. Kent reports to Tulsi Gabbard. I have been warning you all about Joe Kent for a long time now. I predict Tulsi Gabbard will resign next.”
The comments followed the resignation of Joe Kent, who led the National Counterterrorism Center and stepped down over his opposition to the U.S. decision to go to war with Iran. In his resignation letter, Kent wrote, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.”

“As I said in my post yesterday, Kent is another @TuckerCarlson acolyte who undermines President Trump every chance he gets. His wife Heather Kaiser @HeatherKaiserWA works for Trump hater and rabid Jew hater @MaxBlumenthal who is married to a radical Muslim woman. You’ll recall several months ago Kent suggested I was a Mossad spy with zero evidence at all. He was caught leaking President Trump’s private meeting with @marklevinshow to Tucker Carlson a couple months ago and he was told by White House advisors that if he got caught leaking again, he would be fired. Kent even admitted to leaking to Tucker. You’ll notice that Kent is resigning the same day it was announced that Dan Caldwell would be joining @ODNIgov after he was fired by @PeteHegseth for leaking,” Loomer added.
His departure stands as one of the most high-profile internal critiques of the war so far, underscoring growing divisions within Trump’s political base.
Even Kent’s boss, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, has come under intense online scrutiny. She has faced a wave of trolling, with critics resurfacing her past anti-war stance and questioning her current position amid the Iran conflict, highlighting the growing backlash within segments of Trump’s support base.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump brushed aside Kent’s criticism, calling his exit a “good thing” and describing him as “very weak on security.” He added, “When somebody is working with us that says they didn’t think Iran was a threat, we don’t want those people. They’re not smart people, or they’re not savvy people.

Loomer seized on the moment to intensify her criticism of Kent and his allies. She claimed he was closely aligned with figures such as Tucker Carlson and accused him of leaking internal deliberations. She also tied his resignation to wider strains within the intelligence community, pointing to developments involving Tulsi Gabbard, who is expected to testify before congressional intelligence panels.
As she further wrote, “This is exactly what Tulsi Gabbard wanted because now she can use the entire hearing to attack President Trump, and she will never criticize Joe Kent who she always goes out of her way to protect. Kent, Gabbard, Carlson, Blumenthal and Dan Caldwell @dandcaldwell all have the same mentality. This is why they pose such a threat to the Trump administration, because they are all consumed by an obsession with Israel and rabid, irrational Jew hate.”
While the conflict began in late February 2026, when U.S. forces carried out strikes on Iranian targets. The administration maintained the action was necessary to preempt an imminent threat. That assessment, however, has been challenged, including in Pentagon briefings to lawmakers that indicated Iran was unlikely to launch an attack unless provoked.
