WhatsApp launches a new in-built feature and update to generate AI-generated replies. The reply will be based on the user’s conversation. The Meta’s chatting application is also introducing new features, including an innovative way to free up storage and tools to enhance photos with Meta AI, among others.
The most prominent one is WhatsApp’s update to its “Writing Help” feature. This feature helps users to draft messages. The feature, Writing Help, launched last August, is already helping users to rephrase, proofread, and adjust the tone of their messages. On March 26, the Meta subsidiary said in a blog post that this latest update will help users to manage their messages “just right.”

Meta believes users will tend to use more of their in-app features when drafting messages than looking for external tools like ChatGPT or Google Gemini. However, not all users may be likely to adopt the new feature, as many prefer the popular, personal interactions with friends and family rather than AI-assisted messages. The company confirms that chats remain encrypted even when the Writing Help tool is used. To access the feature, users have to tap the chat bar, select the stickers icon in the typing field, and then tap the pencil with sparkle-dust icon indicating an AI feature.
WhatsApp can now help users identify and delete large files directly within any chat. This allows them to remove unnecessary content without deleting entire conversations. For example, users can choose to clear only media files from a chat while keeping the message history intact.

One of the most anticipated additions is the ability to use two accounts on a single iOS device. This feature has long been available on Android, and iPhone users can now log into two separate accounts at once. A profile photo indicator in the bottom tab helps users confirm which account they are using while messaging.
The rollout also brings new AI-powered tools. With support from Meta AI, users can perform light photo editing tasks such as removing backgrounds, changing styles, and deleting elements from images. A new Writing Help feature can assist in drafting messages, while Meta says user privacy remains intact. According to the company, these features will be available to all users soon.
