Oracle Corporation is in the middle of a sweeping global restructuring that is expected to impact tens of thousands of employees, with India emerging as one of the hardest-hit regions.
Estimates suggest the company has cut up to 30,000 roles worldwide, including around 12,000 in India, as it shifts focus toward artificial intelligence and ramps up investment in large-scale data centers. Employees were informed through internal communications that changing business priorities had made certain roles redundant. People familiar with the matter say more layoffs could follow in the coming weeks.
In the United States, Oracle has already disclosed a fresh round of cuts. In a filing under the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, the company said it will lay off 491 employees in Washington state, including remote workers and staff in its Seattle offices, effective June 1, as per Reuters. Oracle described the move as a “reduction in force and other terminations,” while confirming that its Seattle operations will remain open. As of May 2025, the company had about 162,000 full-time employees globally.
The layoffs have triggered a wave of reactions online. A widely circulated post on X has drawn attention for linking the job cuts to broader industry shifts and high-profile data center investments. The post references remarks by Donald Trump, who earlier this year said the Stargate project would create 100,000 American jobs, with Oracle Chairman Larry Ellison present at the announcement.

It argues that many of those jobs are tied to construction work for data centers, while the layoffs are affecting white-collar roles such as engineers, cloud specialists, and IT professionals. The post also claims employees were notified via early morning emails with immediate loss of system access and no direct involvement from managers, and links the cuts to Oracle’s aggressive spending on AI infrastructure. These claims remain unverified, and Oracle has not publicly confirmed the scale or specifics described.
In India, employees say notifications began early on March 31, with emails sent around 6 a.m. informing them that their roles had been eliminated with immediate effect. Many have since shared their experiences on platforms like Reddit and Blind.
According to these accounts, Oracle is guiding affected workers through the exit process, including details on severance that will be finalized after documentation is completed. Employees have been asked to provide personal email addresses for further communication. Internal messages indicate that access to company systems, including devices, email, and internal files, is being revoked shortly after notification, with HR teams handling queries and emphasizing compliance with data protection policies.
According to PTI, the scale of the layoffs in India is significant, with about 12,000 employees affected and another round expected within a month.
“In India, around 12,000 employees have been laid off. The company is planning another mass layoff within a month,” according to the two people affected by the retrenchment, involving one from the company’s human resources team.
In its communication to staff, Oracle said employees were being informed of organizational changes and added that “because of these changes, a decision has been taken to streamline the operations, and as a result, unfortunately, the position you currently hold will become redundant”.

An internal email sent to affected employees, and later shared in screenshots online, outlined the company’s decision and next steps.
The message, signed “Oracle Leadership,” stated:
“We are sharing some difficult news regarding your position. After careful consideration of Oracle’s current business needs, we have made the decision to eliminate your role as part of a broader organizational change. As a result, today is your last working day. We are grateful for your dedication, hard work, and the impact you have made during your time with us. After signing your termination paperwork, you will be eligible to receive a severance package subject to the terms and conditions of the severance plan. You will receive an email from DocuSign to your Oracle email address with details on your severance and termination date.”
The company has outlined compensation that includes 15 days’ salary for each year of service in India, along with one month of unpaid wages through the termination date, leave encashment, gratuity where applicable, and pay for a one-month notice period. It has also offered an additional two months’ salary as a top-up, though employees said the full severance package is available only to those who agree to voluntarily and amicably resign.
