Indian American conservative influencer Priya Patel recently appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored, where her viral immigration video became the center of a heated discussion. Host Piers Morgan introduced her as “the conservative influencer whose video on immigration has been viewed 30 million times this week so far.”
The clip he referred to featured Patel saying, “This is your friendly reminder that immigration without assimilation is invasion. Got it.” The remark has since triggered widespread debate online, drawing both support and criticism.
During the segment, Patel was joined by Brian Shapiro, host of Pushing the Limit. Morgan framed the controversy by pointing to the apparent contradiction some viewers were raising. “It’s gone hugely viral…people have had with this is that Priya Patel is basically lettering people about immigration in the United States, but is called Priya Patel and therefore presumably has a heritage which might be in conflict with the statement. What what’s your view of this?” he asked Shapiro.
Shapiro responded by highlighting the kind of reactions the video was attracting. “My issue is look at all the white nationalists that were commenting and she knows this on her social media pages. That’s what’s concerning to me, the hatred and the white nationalists that that are commenting there. That would be issue number one. Issue number two for me, listen, I have no problem with people coming to this country, learning the language and uh you know, taking some classes and learning the history of America and culture. I have no problem with that at all. But what I want in this country and I think what most people want in this country is diversity as well.”

“Now, we can go back to her family. I don’t know a lot about her family, but in my opinion, a lot of her views and a lot of the stuff that she talks about would lead to her never being born in this country to begin with. And I think that’s where she’s getting some of the push back. Listen, I don’t support any racism. I don’t support uh some of the hateful comments that she’s received. But like I said, there’s a lot of comments on her social media and a lot of white nationalist. That’s very concerning to me, Pierce, and I have a serious problem with that. And that’s not culture of America, and that’s where my issue lies here, asking Patel about her family history, Shapiro added.
Patel, responding to the attention her video has received, said, “To be honest, I am surprised with the amount of uh of attention that it’s gotten, but not surprised all the altogether because I’ve had a viral video that hit on a very similar point prior to this. It didn’t go nearly as viral. So, of course that is shocking, but yes, I understand that it is a very provocative statement coming from somebody named Priya Patel. However, of course, these people have no idea about my uh my family history and my background.”
Morgan then asked about her background directly. “You were born in the United States. Is that right?” Patel replied, “Yes. My mother is from the United States. My father immigrated here as a as a young boy and from England actually, not from India.”
As the conversation continued, Patel elaborated on her family history, clarifying her father’s origins. She explained that her father “was born in Uganda, immigrated to England when he was about 3 years old after the dictator Idi Amin chased out all of the Indians out of Uganda waited their turn to be able to come to the United States and did so when he was in his teenage years.” She added, “My father is full Indian. My mother is American. I have ancestry date. Mixed European. She’s a half German, quarter English, and then the rest is mixed European. But aside from that, I mean, I have ancestry on my mother’s side of her family dating back to the 1700s in the United States.”
Morgan pressed further, questioning how her views align with her family’s immigration story. “So your father was an Indian immigrant from Uganda into the UK, you know, how does that sit with you saying what you said? This is your friendly reminder that immigration without assimilation is invasion. I mean, did your father invade the UK?”
Patel pushed back on that framing. “No, of course not. But, you know, there is a there is a personal duty on the part of immigrants to assimilate to the culture of the country that they are blessed enough to come to, especially when it comes to, of course, that sort of situation, but honestly, anybody that is blessed enough to come to the United States in particular.”
Shapiro strongly disagreed with her stance. “Completely disagree with that. In in my personal opinion, I think in a way it’s a bigoted view. You can come to this country and you could learn about our culture. I have no problem with that. But that doesn’t mean you have to abide by our cultures and what we do. The thing that makes America great is our diversity and the fact that there are all sorts of different cultures, people with different backgrounds that live in the United States of America.”

After the interview clip circulated online, it quickly gained traction across X, where users began dissecting Patel’s remarks about her background. Many posts claimed she appeared uncomfortable discussing her father’s Indian roots, noting that she initially described him as being from England before elaborating further under questioning.
One widely shared post read, “Remember Priya Patel, who recently went viral for telling immigrants to assimilate and was then told by a white supremacist to “shut up, do OnlyFans, and leave the US.” Well, she was on Piers Morgan’s show, where she seemed embarrassed to admit that her dad is Indian,” while another added, “Here, Priya Patel is pushing anti-immigrant, Islamophobic rhetoric to win approval from the MAGA base, despite her own roots. It took sustained probing just to get her to acknowledge her father is of Indian origin. Performative loyalty won’t buy permanent acceptance.”
Some users also pointed to her name as part of the debate, with one comment reading, “If “Priya Patel” doesn’t give away her origins then I don’t know what does.”
Patel has repeatedly been called out online for what critics see as her reluctance to fully acknowledge her Indian roots, during recording her vlogs, social media clips and high-profile appearances like Piers Morgan Uncensored.
Many users have pointed to her surname “Patel” as an obvious marker of her heritage, arguing that it undercuts her hardline stance on immigration and assimilation. The criticism has largely centered on what they describe as a contradiction between her background and her rhetoric, with several posts accusing her of trying to distance herself from her Indian identity while aligning with right-wing, MAGA-leaning narratives in the United States.
For these critics, the issue is not just her views on immigration, but how she positions herself within that debate while, in their view, sidestepping the very roots that define her identity.
