YouTube raised its subscription prices in the U.S. for the first time in three years. According to YouTube, increases of up to $4 will take place from the next billing cycle onwards.
On Friday, the platform noted the standard individual YouTube Premium plan would now cost $15.99 a month, up from $13.99, while the family plan price rises by $4 to $26.99 a month. YouTube Lite, a lower-cost tier that offers an ad-free experience for most videos but excludes YouTube Music is now priced at $8.99 per month. The standalone YouTube Music Premium subscription was also increased by $1 to $11.99 a month.

“We’re updating the price for YouTube Premium plans in the U.S. for the first time since 2023 to continue delivering a high-quality experience that supports creators and artists on YouTube,” a spokesperson told Business Insider in a statement.
“This change allows us to maintain the features our members value most: ad-free viewing, background play, and a massive library of 300M+ tracks on YouTube Music,” they added. “We continue to offer several plans, ensuring subscribers can choose the option that works best for them.”
Current viewers are expected to receive an email from YouTube at least 30 days in advance confirming the updated prices.
YouTube is not the only streaming platform that recently saw a hike in subscription prices. Last month, Netflix quietly raised its prices. The platform’s most affordable, ad-supported tier now costs $8.99 per month, up from the previous $7.99 monthly subscription fee. The standard plan without ads now costs $19.99 per month, a $2 increase from the previous $17.99 subscription fee. The cost of the premium plan has also been raised by $2 and will now cost $26.99 a month.

Last year, Disney raised the prices for its platforms, Disney+ and Hulu. The Disney+ standalone plan with ads was increased by $2 to $11.99 per month, while the no-ads Disney+ Premium plan was increased by $3 to $18.99 per month. The Disney+ Premium annual plan was increased by $30 to $189.99 per year. The Hulu standalone plan with ads was raised from $9.99 per month to $11.99.
Other streaming services that recently raised its prices include Paramount+, Crunchyroll, HBO Max, Peacock, and Apple TV.
