Celebrities galore at Delhi Couture Week.

NEW DELHI: Fashion designer Manish Malhotra held a gala event as the grand finale of Delhi Couture Week, this past Sunday. Malhotra, designer to the stars whose outfits have been seen on celebrities like Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra for years, introduced a new line of dresses inspired by the regal times of India in the 1930s.
“In the 1930s, India was a country trying to find her voice. It was the age of opulence, and of affluence. Even as viceroys conducted matters of state, kings, queens, princes and princesses ruled over their own domains. The cross-cultural ties created a very unique genre of fashion and culture, which I am very inspired by,†Malhotra said.
Malhotra, known for his striking use of unusual fabrics and eye-catching colors to create hugely memorable outfits, incorporated many of his well-known stylistic traits into his newest line, despite it being based in large part on an era he wasn’t even alive during. Celebrities like Khan and his Chennai Express co-star Deepika Padukone were in attendance at the event, with the latter even walking the ramp in a striking navy blue embroidered lehnga.
The collection was made in close collaboration with Christian Louboutin, a renowned French shoe designer. Attendees at the event also included Rohit Shetty, Sunanda Tharoor, Shashi Tharoor, J.J. Valaya, and Sheetal Mafatlal.
