WASHINGTON, DC: The Chandigarh-based India Centre of the Sikh American Chamber of Commerce (SACC) has entered into an agreement with UP Global to help foster increased entrepreneurial activity between the US and India.
UP Global is a Seattle-based non-profit organization known for its “Startup Weekend†programs, which are intensive, dynamic crash-courses on how to build a company from the ground up. UP Global is a key partner of Google for Entrepreneurs, an arm of the search engine giant that is dedicated to seeking out innovative potential business leaders from around the world.
Under the new partnership, which was cemented with a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the two parties, the SACC and UP Global will host a Startup Weekend in Mohali, a major city in the Indian state of Punjab and a close neighbor of Chandigarh. This Startup Weekend will be held in early July, reports Business Standard.
The India Centre in Chandigarh was opened this past January, and has already made significant progress towards establishing itself as a major hub of commerce and business relations between the US and India. Its new relationship with UP Global will further enhance those goals, which are numerous.
Both organizations hope that their new endeavor will not only enhance entrepreneurial activities between the US and India, but will also create invaluable networking opportunities, and grow overall trade and business between the two nations. Bilateral trade between the US and India is already at an all-time high, and both countries have voiced their desire to keep the upward trend going.
Based in Iselin, New Jersey, the SACC strives to “promote entrepreneurship and substantially increase the success rate and involvement of Sikh entrepreneurs in the business community.†Founded in 2011, it is a non-profit entity made up entirely of local small businesses. Its founder is Sukhwinder Singh Kaila, and its current president is Manipal Dhaliwal.
