The Billion Day’s Sale is from 13th to 17th October

India’s largest e-commerce retailer Flipkart is all set to host its 5-day long ‘Big Billion Day’s sale’, which claims to offer big discounts to customers on different products. Flipkart expects to make sales of $500 million of the 5-day discount sale.
During the five day event that starts from October 13 to 17, each day will have offers on one particular product category.
Flipkart introduced the mega discount sale last year, called Big Billion Sales when around 1.5 million customers bought products worth $100 million in a single day. However, the company faced widespread criticism from customers on different grounds.
This year, Flipkart started preparations for the event almost 10 months ago. The company strengthened their logistics, supply chain and technology in expectation of a huge demand.
This year, offers are limited to those who use Flipkart mobile app for ordering, as 74% of Flipkart’s traffic is coming via mobile.
Flipkart added three new call centers in Indore, Pune and Noida and 1,000 trained agents are deployed here to handle customer calls. Arrangements are also made to handle emails and social media posts. Many customer services have also been automated with the help of mobile app.
The average monthly sale of Flipkart is around $309 million. Online retailers usually make an average of 10-15% as commission from the overall sales depending on each category.
Meanwhile, rival Amazon is also hosting its pre-Diwali sale on the same days as Flipkart. Another major e-retailer Snapdeal hosts a one-day electronic sale on October 12.
At the same time Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has filed a complaint with the Commerce and Industry Ministry stating that these large online retailers are violating the norms of the consolidated FDI policy circular, 2015. It urged the ministry to issue directions to these firms, restricting them from offering sales and discounts.
