Indian cricketer Amit Mishra was arrested in Bangalore on Tuesday on charges of assaulting a woman. Later, he was released on a bail.
The woman, a Bollywood producer based in Bangalore, had filed a complaint against Misha, who was also her friend, with the Ashok Nagar police in the city on 27 September.
She had alleged that Mishra had assaulted her physically when she was in his room in a five star hotel in Bangalore on September 25.
Based on this complaint, the Ashok Nagar police had registered a criminal case against Mishra and issued a notice to him asking him to give his statement on the complaint.
Mishra was booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 328 (causing hurt with intent to commit an offence).
Two days after filing the complaint, the 34-year-old woman had said that they were friends and she has decided to withdraw the complaint. She also said that she was waiting for Mishra to summon before the police and thereafter both would amicably withdraw the complaint.
But on October 24, she told to The Hindu, “I won’t withdraw the complaint against Amit (Mishra). I am hurt physically, mentally and emotionally by the cricketer. He knew I was going to the police and kept saying he will come to Bangalore and sort out the matter.”
The lady claimed that they were friends for nearly four years and she wanted Mishra to come in front of the police and talk to her.
Mishra was in Bangalore with the Indian cricket team last month for attending a training camp prior to India-South Africa one day international tournament.
The leg-spinner picked up four wickets in the four matches of the recently concluded India-South Africa ODI.
