San Francisco police is investigating a violent assault on Indian American tech entrepreneur Vishnu Hari, co-founder of the San Francisco-based 3D simulation engine firm Ego, in San Francisco’s Mission District.
No arrests have been made yet in the case of Hari, who was found bleeding from the head on Jan. 18, This is still an open and active investigation, according to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD).
Violent crime is unacceptable in San Francisco and the SFPD has devoted resources to ensure the public is safe and perpetrators are held accountable, it said in a press release.

The SFPD is working to make an arrest in this case, at which point we will work closely with our partners in the district attorneys office, it added. The SFPD is aware of this incident and has reached out to the victim. The SFPD takes violent crime very seriously and investigators are working diligently on this case.
In a Feb. 1 post on X, Hari wrote, he “was recently discharged from the icu at the sf hospital after traumatic brain injury due to a man hitting me on the back of my head with a metal pipe, completely unprovoked, in the mission in san francisco.”
“This man is known to the police since he’s done this before to other people. Afraid they will not be pressing charges or prosecuting this individual due to the state of sf politics.
“As a result of his attack, I’m partially blind in my right eye and can’t hear well out of my left ear. He attacked me when I was walking home from the corner store for absolutely no reason. He did not end up stealing my phone or wallet but he did rip off all my jewelry and piercings,” Hari wrote.
“I am confused as to why the sf institutions refuse to take this seriously. I unfortunately have no memory of the incident and pieced this info together from friends who spoke to the police,” he added.
According to SFPD, on Jan 18, 2025, at about 2:08 a.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to the area of 24th and Bryant Streets regarding an unknown male in the street bleeding from the head.
