OpenAI has teamed up with digital health infrastructure company b. well to provide secure connectivity between users’ medical records and its newly introduced ChatGPT Health feature, marking a major step in bringing personalized health data into artificial intelligence-assisted conversations.
The collaboration, announced Jan. 7, 2026, designates b. well as the underlying health data connectivity backbone for ChatGPT Health, the dedicated space inside ChatGPT where users can safely link medical records and wellness apps for deeper insights into their own health information.
OpenAI says the move aims to give individuals the ability to connect health records from U.S. providers directly to ChatGPT in a way that puts them in control of their data, enabling context-aware interactions grounded in longitudinal health history.

“One of the most common and meaningful ways people use ChatGPT today is for health and wellness information,” said Ashley Alexander, vice president of health products at OpenAI. “By working with trusted partners like b. well, we can make those experiences more useful and personalized.”
Under the arrangement, users explicitly authorize access to their records inside ChatGPT Health. b. well’ s network, which spans more than 2.2 million providers and hundreds of plans and labs across the U.S., aggregates clinical data and delivers it in a structured format relative to the health-focused AI environment.
Built on industry interoperability standards, the b. well connectivity platform supports both structured and unstructured clinical information — including patient summaries, lab results, notes, and insurance coverage details — allowing the AI to generate responses informed by a user’s real health profile rather than generic advice.

Kristen Valdes, b. well’ s CEO, said the integration meets people where they are, helping them engage with their health and wellness with more context and clarity. “b. well was built to make healthcare simpler for consumers and families,” she said.
Even as it leans into personalized data, OpenAI stresses that ChatGPT Health is not a clinical diagnostic or treatment tool, but rather a supportive aid that can help users understand test results, prepare for doctor visits, and explore general wellness concerns.
The feature also includes enhanced privacy protections, such as isolating health conversations from regular ChatGPT chats, encrypting data at rest and in transit, and giving users control over what is shared and when it can be revoked.
Initially, access to ChatGPT Health and its integrations will be available to a limited group of free and paid users in the United States, with plans to roll out more broadly in the coming weeks.
