Seasoned Indian American banking professional Raunak Chandra has joined SMBC Group, a global financial group headquartered in Tokyo, as Executive Director, Head of Financial Resource Management, Treasury, based in New York.
In this role, Chandra will be responsible for leading financial resource management and treasury functions, strengthening liquidity, funding strategy, and balance sheet optimization for the organization, according to a company release. His appointment reflects SMBC Group’s focus on reinforcing its global treasury and financial governance capabilities.

Immediately prior to joining SMBC Group, Chandra served as Executive Director – Head of Finance Data Strategy and Management, Americas at UBS. In this role, he led finance data governance across the Americas, strengthening controls around key data outputs, financial reporting, KPIs, governance forums, and escalation mechanisms, while supporting bank-wide finance technology modernization initiatives.

Before UBS, Chandra spent over 13 years at Credit Suisse, where he held multiple senior leadership roles. His responsibilities included serving as Director – Americas Treasury; Head of Finance, New Business and Coverage, as well as Ad-interim Head of Funding and Liquidity Management, where he led contingency funding planning, liquidity optimization, regulatory metrics management, and funding cost forecasting for the Americas.
Earlier at Credit Suisse, he worked as Director – Finance & Strategy, Wind-down Group and Global Liquidity Group, and Vice President – Finance & Strategy, Strategic Resolution Unit, leading capital and liquidity management, FP&A, regulatory reporting, executive-level analytics, and strategic initiatives focused on financial resource optimization.
Chandra began his professional journey as a Quant Research Analyst at Jaypee Capital Services Ltd, building a strong foundation in quantitative analysis and financial markets.
He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management (Finance & General Management) from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, and a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology.
