Leading Healthcare company Humana has appointed of Dr. Shantanu Nundy as its new chief medical officer starting August 31.
A practicing physician, healthcare executive, and technology leader, Dr. Nundy will guide the company’s clinical product design, care platform development, and integration of artificial intelligence, reporting directly to President and CEO Jim Rechtin.
Dr. Nundy built his academic foundation across leading U.S. institutions, earning a bachelor’s degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.

Throughout his career, Dr. Nundy has bridged clinical practice with large-scale digital innovation. He most recently served as executive vice president of care delivery and chief health officer at Accolade, steering personalized navigation and care delivery tools for millions of working Americans before the company was acquired by Transcarent.
Prior to that, as managing director for clinical innovation at Evolent Health, he guided value-based care and digital transformation across large rural and urban health systems. His early work as director of the Human Diagnosis Project focused on combining human and machine intelligence to improve diagnosis and clinical decision-making.
Alongside executive leadership roles, Dr. Nundy maintains a part-time clinical practice and sees primary care patients at Neighborhood Health, a federally qualified health center serving low-income and uninsured populations, and practices hospital medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center.

His work has been recognized by the MacArthur Foundation and featured in publications including The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Rolling Stone, Forbes, The Atlantic, and Wired.
He is the author of two books, including “Care After Covid: What the Pandemic Revealed Is Broken in Healthcare and How to Reinvent It,” and serves as an adjunct professor at Stanford Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, while advising organizations including the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the World Bank, and numerous startups and investors.
At Humana, Dr. Nundy joins the Enterprise Leadership Team to help simplify the path to care and support health outcomes across the company’s platforms.
