Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie Bajirao Mastani got a big relief on Friday as a Pune court dismissed a petition seeking a ban on the film.
The court ordered that the film cannot be banned only on the basis that it hurt public sentiments because it doesn’t amount to public nuisance. The petition is valid only if the film leads to public nuisance or any of the actions in the film is inappropriate and can affect the people.
The petition was filed by the head of an NGO in Pune. He alleged that the film shows a distorted view of the family history of the King Shrimant Bajirao Peshwe, which could hurt the feelings of his followers.
The court also said the petitioner that he can approach Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding the issue.
The petitioner has also written a complaint to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, demanding the same.
Controversies about Bajirao Mastani began after the ‘Pinga’ song from the film got released. The song was criticized mainly for the traditional dance, which was visualized like an item dance.
The film, which stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra, will be released worldwide on December 18. It will also be released in Tamil and Telugu.
