An Omaha, Nebraska bank, Security National Bank, landed itself in controversy after it asked a Muslim woman wearing a hijab (religious scarf covering head) to remove it before entering the bank premises, last week.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) later asked the bank to adjust their security policies to allow Muslim women wearing a hijab to enter without having to remove them. The woman told CAIR says she was discriminated against and was emotionally distraught by the experience, reported the Nebraska Radio Network.
Security National Bank officials released a statement that they respect everyone in the community and this was in no way intended to be discriminatory and if they caused offense in any way they are sorry.
The statement read: “For security reasons, our policy for all walk-in customers is to remove all face, eye and head covering to allow our employees and security cameras to have a clear view of each person entering the bank. We routinely ask individuals to remove their hats, scarves and sunglasses prior to entering. This is done in an effort to keep our customers and employees safe.†There is a sign on the door asking customers to comply with their regulations.
Ibrahim Hooper, National Communications Director for CAIR, said in a statement: “Bank officials are responding pretty well in this situation. They’ve reached out to us and are working on language for a policy change that would allow anyone to go on into a branch as long as their face is fully visible. That is all we really request.â€
Omaha police were called to the bank last Tuesday afternoon by the woman but no report was filed, the Network report said.

Security National Bank is my bank. I am a full fledged American and for the last year and a half or more while their new construction has been ongoing, they have requested that all hats be removed BEFORE they would unlock the door on their temporary trailer facilities. I complied, as well as every other patron did. My religion doesn’t dictate that I over-rule the bank’s rules just because I’m Lutheran. Quite the opposite, my religion teaches me to RESPECT the rules set before me no matter what establishment it is here in American, the land of the free. If this lady wants to live in America, and she wants to be free, then she needs to follow our country’s rules the same as all other Americans. If she wants to keep her headpiece on, then she needs to leave our country and go back to the barbaric country she came from. I’m sick and tired of foreigners coming into America thinking THEY are going to change America. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. ALL OUR LAWS NEED TO SUPPORT OUR AMERICAN VALUES AND IF SHE OR ANYONE ELSE DOESN’T LIKE IT —-LEAVE !
This didn’t happen like any of the news outlets reported. Omaha NE is a horrible place for balanced news. Sadly the bank didn’t choose to defend themselves and instead opted to allow it to blow over. I was there!!!!! This looked planned!! She didn’t take off anything and she treated bloody murder until the cops arrived!
