The world’s oldest marathon runner, Sardar Fauja Singh, plans to make his second tour of New York City this weekend, after having completed the ING New York City Marathon in 2003.
This Sunday marks the 3rd-Annual Vaisakhi 5K Run, to be held at Victory Field in Forest Park, in Woodhaven, NY.
Fauja Singh will be the chief guest at the Vaisakhi 5K, which will mark the highlight of his week-long stay, according to a press release.
Fauja Singh has scheduled appearances throughout the week, after his arrival to New York on Wednesday evening. He will appear alongside Dr. Tinna and Satnam Singh Parhar, Vaisakhi 5K’s co-Presidents on a Punjab TV channel.
Fauja Singh will be a guest of honor at the Sikh Day Parade held annually in Manhattan. The parade brings together thousands of Sikhs from Gurdwara congregations across the tri-state area, to celebrate Vaisakhi, the Sikh holiday will recognize the foundation of the Khalsa Panth, a body of initiated Sikhs.
At Vaisakhi 5K, the top three runners in each category (men, women, boys and girls) will be awarded by Fauja Singh, and have the opportunity to meet and greet with the record-breaking runner.
