Indian American Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-MI) has called for President Donald Trump’s impeachment for his failure to enforce Supreme Court’s order to facilitate the return of a Maryland man deported to El Salvador by mistake.
In a rare unanimous (9-0) Supreme Court ruling, both liberal and conservative justices ruled that the Trump administration must facilitate the return of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia to the United States so that he can be afforded the due process he is constitutionally entitled to, he noted in a press release.

The administration’s blatant disregard for this ruling from the highest court of the judicial branch is a direct defiance of the US Constitution and a dismissal of the checks and balances that safeguard against tyranny and abuses of power, Thanedar wrote asserting, “This non-compliance falls under “High Crimes” as outlined in Section 4 of Article Two of the United States Constitution and constitutes an impeachable offense.”
“We must take action now,” said Rep. Thanedar. “Donald Trump and members of his administration are deporting people with limited evidence and no due process to horrific mega prisons in a foreign nation. As a member of Congress, I have a responsibility to uphold the checks and balances that safeguard the integrity of our democracy and prevent a slide into authoritarianism. This must be a red line. Otherwise, we risk Donald Trump continuing to defy the Constitution in his own interest, rather than the interest of the nation.”
The latest legal battle over the mistaken deportation of Garcia is indicative of willful disregard and flagrant violation of due process by this administration, Thanedar stated.
Garcia, he noted, had been granted protection from deportation by a judge in 2019. The Trump administration alleged, with minimal evidence, that Garcia was a member of the gang, MS-13. The administration purposefully ignored his continued routine check-ins with immigration officials over the past six years that guaranteed him the right to live and work in this country.
Garcia is currently in El Salvador’s high security prison, CECOT, positively ID’d by his wife, Vasquez Sura, from pictures of detainees at the Salvadoran prison.
This action is another in a long list of impeachable offenses committed by this President. Since taking office, President Trump has been on a rampage, targeting spending authorized by Congress under the false pretense of “preventing fraud,” Thanedar stated.

Trump is exacting revenge against those who dared to hold him and his administration accountable for their unlawful actions, the Indian American lawmaker wrote. He has launched an onslaught of attacks against social programs, imposed a freeze on federal aid and hiring, and is seeking to dismantle the Department of Education, USAID, FEMA, and other major government agencies, all of which are under the authority of Congress.
“Enough is enough,” stated Thanedar. “We can not allow this obvious authoritarian power grab to continue. I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to stand up for the Constitution and the American people and join the call for impeachment.”
