It looks like auto giant Ford may be in trouble. Ford Motor is recalling over 200,000 SUVs in the U.S. over software issues that may result in the loss of rearview camera image and some advanced driver assistance (ADAS) features, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Tuesday.
Ford Motor Company announced a major recall of 254,640 SUVs in the United States after the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determined that a software defect supposedly could cause critical safety features to fail. The recall covers multiple Ford and Lincoln SUV models, including popular vehicles such as the Lincoln Navigator, Lincoln Nautilus, Lincoln Aviator, and Ford Explorer.
The defect stems from an unexpected reset in the vehicle’s image processing software, which may lead to the rearview camera image disappearing or advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS stopping working intermittently). An unexpected reset of an image processing software may also cause loss of other ADAS features like pre-collision assist, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

It was founded by Henry Ford in 1903 in Detroit, Michigan, USA, with the goal of producing affordable automobiles for the general public. Ford’s headquarters remain in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, which has served as the company’s central hub for operations, research, and design for decades. The company produces a wide range of vehicles, including cars, SUVs, trucks, and commercial vehicles, and has expanded globally with manufacturing plants, subsidiaries, and dealerships. Over its long history, Ford has introduced landmark vehicles such as the Model T, the F-Series trucks, and luxury models under the Lincoln brand.
The recent recall highlights the growing complexity and risks associated with modern vehicle technology. As automakers increasingly integrate software-driven systems, including advanced driver assistance (ADAS) features, the potential for technical glitches rises, underscoring the importance of rigorous testing, quality assurance, and timely updates. Even well-established companies like Ford are not immune to these challenges, demonstrating that innovation must be balanced with safety and reliability.
