Sonic, a premier provider of professional-grade tools and equipment, has named Sanjay Patel, an Indian American automotive veteran with more than 30 years of industry experience, as its new Chief Commercial Officer. He will oversee the company’s nationwide distribution network and lead strategic growth initiatives from its Auburn, Alabama headquarters.
Patel’s appointment brings a wealth of executive expertise to the Sonic leadership team. His career spans several of the most recognized brands in the automotive aftermarket, including high-level roles at Genuine Parts Company (NAPA), Pep Boys, and XL Parts.
Notably, he previously served as president of Carquest North America at Advance Auto Parts, where he managed large-scale operations and market expansion. Most recently, he was the senior vice president of marketing and merchandising at Integrated Supply Network (ISN).
The appointment is a significant milestone for the Indian American professional community, highlighting the continued influence of the diaspora in the U.S. industrial C-suite.

Patel’s career path reflects a deep-rooted commitment to technical education and specialized training. He holds an Executive MBA in Business Management from Tulane University’s A.B. Freeman School of Business and began his academic journey studying engineering at San José State University. He also earned an associate degree in automotive studies from the Sequoia Institute of Technology.
Starting as a technical support manager at Dinan Engineering, Patel later spent six years as a parts and service director for General Motors in California.
These roles helped him bridge the gap between mechanical technicality and executive strategy, a combination Sonic CEO Brian Lindquist describes as a “perfect fit” for the company’s customer-centric distribution goals.
“I am excited to join Sonic and leverage our strategic partnerships to drive growth,” Patel said. “Throughout my career, I’ve seen that success comes from executing at a high level of service and building a robust network that truly resonates with our customers.”
Based in Auburn, Alabama, Sonic specializes in precision hand tools and premium storage solutions for automotive, aviation, and manufacturing professionals.
Under Patel’s commercial leadership, the company plans to further diversify its product accessibility and solidify its presence as a dominant force in the U.S. market.
