Far-right activist Laura Loomer, who has previously faced criticism for anti-India remarks, posted praise for India on X after seeing photos from Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s recent visit to the country.
“Seeing all of @marcorubio’s photos from India makes me want to go back to India! I love India. Such a beautiful country,” Loomer wrote, adding that she was glad Rubio and “his supermodel wife” were able to visit India and meet many of the same people she met during her own trip.
The X post also included a photo of Loomer wearing traditional Indian attire.
Loomer’s post is notable since she had been scrutinized for her anti-India remarks in the past. She had reportedly made posts in 2024 and 2025 where she used derogatory language to describe Indian immigrants, at one point calling them “third-world invaders.” She had also mocked Bollywood and made curry-related jokes about former Vice President Kamala Harris, while also making disparaging remarks about hygiene practices in India.

Many of these inflammatory posts were removed ahead of Loomer’s appearance at the India Today Conclave 2026 in March. Loomer’s appearance at that event was heavily criticized, with journalist Mehdi Hasan, a former host at MSNBC writing on X: “How are Indians ok with this?”
Social media users had also criticized India Today and its founder and chairman Aroon Purie for inviting Loomer to speak at the India Today Conclave 2026. One user wrote, “Congratulations @IndiaToday @aroonpurie inviting the racist, Trump Supporter @LauraLoomer for India Today Conclave 2026.”
During her trip to India, Loomer was also confronted by Indian journalist Sardesai, who presented her with multiple anti-India social posts which were ironically made by her. He read a post from 2024 in which Loomer said the White House would “smell like curry” if then-Vice President Kamala Harris became president. She also said that the U.S. was built by “white Europeans, not third-world invaders from India.” He went on to accuse Loomer of being “brazenly racist and Islamophobic” and told her her comments represented “anti-Indianism, worse still Islamophobia, and even worse racism,” which he said had “no place in today’s world.”

Loomer responded to this by saying “I shouldn’t have said some of the things that I said … and I apologize if my remarks offended people.” However, she continued to double down on her anti-Muslim remarks, and also maintained her criticism of the H-1B program.
Loomer is not the only conservative figure who seems to be playing both sides when it comes to India. In April, President Donald Trump shared a derogatory post by a podcaster that described India as a “hellhole” on social media. When asked about it by an Indian reporter, State Secretary Rubio said that the president “loves India.”
“The president’s a big fan of India, a big fan of Prime Minister Modi. I wouldn’t be here if the president didn’t want me to be here. He wouldn’t have sent someone like Sergio to be our ambassador, someone who’s very close to the president,” he added.
