An Indian student from Telangana was shot and killed in Philadelphia after delivering a pizza order to what investigators believe may have been a vacant apartment. This adds to growing concerns about the safety of international students and immigrant workers in the United States.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Anshul Kuncha, had been working as a pizza delivery driver while pursuing his studies in the U.S., according to reports from Indian media and local authorities cited by WION. Police said Kuncha was shot shortly after arriving at an apartment complex to complete a delivery late at night.
Investigators are examining whether the order may have been used to lure him to the location. Family members quoted by Indian media alleged that Kuncha may have been trapped and targeted, though police have not publicly confirmed a motive or announced any arrests.

Authorities said officers responded to reports of gunfire and found Kuncha suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The killing has drawn attention in both India and the United States, particularly among the large Indian student community that increasingly relies on part-time work to help manage living expenses and tuition costs. Thousands of Indian students work in delivery services, retail, hospitality, and other sectors while pursuing higher education in America.
According to Indian government data, Indian nationals are among the largest groups of international students in the United States. Many families in India view American education as a pathway to professional opportunity, making incidents involving student safety especially sensitive.
While violent crime involving international students remains relatively uncommon, several high-profile cases have recently generated concern among Indian families and diaspora organizations. Community advocates have urged students to remain cautious when accepting late-night delivery assignments and to follow safety protocols when working alone.

Philadelphia police have not released details about potential suspects or whether robbery was a factor in the shooting. Investigators are reviewing evidence from the scene and seeking information from witnesses.
Kuncha’s death has prompted an outpouring of grief from friends, family members, and members of the Indian community in the United States. As the investigation continues, relatives are seeking answers about the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting and whether the delivery request was part of a deliberate plan to target him.
Police said the investigation remains active.
