SpaceX announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement to acquire AI coding startup Cursor in a transaction that values the company at $60 billion.
Based in San Francisco, Cursor was founded in 2022 by Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif, Arvid Lunnemark, and Aman Sanger while they were students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). In just a few years, the company has emerged as one of the fastest-growing startups in the artificial intelligence sector.
The deal is expected to mint a new generation of tech billionaires, including one entrepreneur with Indian roots.
According to Forbes, Cursor’s founders are expected to see their fortunes rise significantly once the transaction closes. Among them is Aman Sanger, the son of Indian immigrants to the United States, whose story reflects the growing influence of Indian Americans in the technology industry.

As interest grows around Cursor’s rapid ascent, attention is also turning to Sanger’s background and the path that led him to help build one of Silicon Valley’s most valuable AI startups.
At 25, Sanger is among the youngest entrepreneurs to reach billionaire status through the AI boom. He grew up in a family that emphasized education, entrepreneurship, and professional achievement.
His father, Arvind Sanger, is a graduate of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, one of India’s premier engineering institutions. After earning his engineering degree, Arvind Sanger moved to the United States, where he completed an MBA at Tulane University before building a career in finance.
In 2007, he founded Geosphere Capital, an investment firm focused on natural resources, industrial sectors, and Indian equities.
Sanger’s mother, Shilpa Sanger, was raised in Mumbai and built a career spanning healthcare, entrepreneurship, and startup investing. An orthodontist by training, she has also worked as an entrepreneur and angel investor.

The couple met while studying in New York and married after about 18 months of dating, according to an interview Shilpa Sanger gave to Seema. They have two children, Aman and his sister.
That upbringing exposed Sanger to both entrepreneurship and investing from an early age, influences that would later shape his own career in technology.
Sanger attended MIT, where he studied computer science from 2018 to 2022. Outside the classroom, he was an avid squash player and remained active in campus athletics while pursuing his studies.
His journey from MIT student to AI entrepreneur has been remarkably rapid. According to Forbes, Sanger’s net worth is currently estimated at approximately $1.3 billion. He owned a 4.5% stake in Cursor, matching the ownership held by each of the company’s other co-founders.
