Billionaire investor and Pershing Square CEO Bill Ackman is facing criticism on social media after calling for immigration officials to help an Indian student who said she was unable to secure an F-1 visa appointment in time to attend Harvard Law School.
Ackman shared a post from an X user identifying herself as Threcy Jo Lawrence, who claimed she had been admitted to Harvard Law School with more than a 90 percent scholarship but was unable to obtain an F-1 student visa appointment before the program began.
Along with reposting her message, Ackman argued that the U.S. should make it easier for highly skilled international students to study and remain in the country.
“Our immigration policies need to be reformed to allow the best and brightest to be educated in the USA and stay here to create value for our country. As long as their values are aligned with the long-term interests of our country, their visas should be fast tracked.
Can someone in immigration help this young woman?”
The student had written:
“I got into Harvard Law School with more than 90% scholarship and it cannot be deferred. I have 25 days left, and I still cannot get an F-1 visa appointment. This is my first ever tweet. I created my account today because I have…”

The post quickly gained attention, but Lawrence later deleted her X account after facing online backlash.
Ackman’s post also sparked a wave of criticism, with several users questioning why he was publicly asking immigration authorities to intervene in an individual visa case.
One user wrote:
“Bill, are you a fucking idiot?
Have you learned absolutely nothing from the past 5 years? How do you think immigrant women who go to Harvard Law vote?
WAKE THE FUCK UP MAN.
Sweet fucking Moses you’re hopeless.”
Another user alleged the original post was not genuine, commenting:
“Bill, you fell for a scammer.”
Others objected to the idea of prioritizing a single applicant.
“You don’t know anything about her and you want her to just skip the line? We don’t need any more foreign lawyers here to subvert our country.”
Another commenter argued that the U.S. should focus on domestic graduates instead of fast-tracking international talent.

“When are you going to learn @BillAckman?
349 million people aren’t enough to ‘find talent’?
44% of college graduates unemployed or underemployed?
You want young people turning to DSA-Hamas socialist Jew-haters? This is how you do it.
Right though, we should destroy our country so Threcy from who knows where can become a lawyer at Harvard.”
Another user criticized Ackman’s appeal for government assistance, writing:
“‘Can someone help her out?’
WTH? I just can’t with these elites anymore. I really can’t.
Bill gets duped by a bogus account from India who is clearly trying to hurt President Trump with this bullshit and then has the audacity to ask for help to get her citizenship. UNBELIEVABLE.”
Publicly available records show that Lawrence was previously a fourth-year student at the National Law University (NLU) Delhi in 2020, before claiming admission to Harvard Law School with a scholarship in her now-deleted X post.
The exchange comes at a time when U.S. student visa processing has become a closely watched issue, with many prospective international students reporting delays in securing visa appointments ahead of the academic year.
