Elon Musk says Grok Imagine will create a full-length version of “The Odyssey” by the end of 2026, claiming the AI-generated movie will be “historically accurate and true to the art of Homer.”
Musk made the announcement Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter, as he appeared to challenge filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s newly released adaptation of the ancient Greek epic.
“Before this year ends, Grok Imagine will make a full-length movie of The Odyssey that is historically accurate and true to the art of Homer,” Musk wrote.

His post was accompanied by an AI-generated clip depicting scenes inspired by “The Odyssey.” Musk did not provide details about the planned film’s production process, its length, or how Grok Imagine would maintain consistency across a feature-length production.
The announcement comes after months of Musk criticizing Nolan’s adaptation, particularly its casting choices. Musk had previously objected to the casting of Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy and also criticized other casting decisions surrounding the film.
Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” starring Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland and Nyong’o, has nevertheless emerged as a major commercial success. The film reportedly earned about $264 million worldwide in its opening weekend, according to entertainment industry reports.
Musk’s use of the term “historically accurate” has also prompted questions because Homer’s “The Odyssey” is an ancient epic that blends mythology, fantasy and legendary storytelling. The poem features elements including gods, monsters and supernatural events, making the meaning of historical accuracy in a screen adaptation open to interpretation.
The announcement highlights Musk’s growing push to position Grok Imagine as a tool capable of producing increasingly sophisticated AI-generated video content. However, creating a coherent feature-length film remains considerably more demanding than generating short AI video clips, requiring consistent characters, narrative continuity, visual coherence, editing and sound.

Musk has not said whether the proposed film will be released commercially or distributed through an existing platform.
The project, if completed on Musk’s timeline, would place AI-generated filmmaking at the center of a high-profile comparison with a major Hollywood production. It would also provide a prominent test of whether current generative AI systems can produce a feature-length movie while maintaining the creative and technical consistency expected from traditional filmmaking.
For now, Musk has set a deadline of the end of 2026 for Grok Imagine’s version of “The Odyssey,” but has yet to reveal further production details.
