Rep. Ro Khanna accused President Donald Trump of increasing financial pressure on American households through his administrative policies. Khanna wrote on X, “American families are paying $3,500 more a year because of Trump’s war in Iran, his blanket tariffs, and his tax breaks for the wealthy.”
The California Democrat also shared a video alongside the post, which showed him saying “We know that the war in Iran has driven up food and gas prices. We know that the blanket tariffs have driven up the prices of so many goods in stores.” He also criticized Trump’s tax policies, arguing they contributed to cuts in government programs and higher health care expenses.
“And we know that Trump’s tax breaks to the wealthy led to steep Medicaid cuts that have meant $1,000 more in the health care costs for ordinary Americans,” Khanna said.
He also said “Trump is costing every American family $3,500” and called for Democrats to regain political power to reverse what he described as “Trumponomics.”
This comes amid wider criticisms of Trump’s economic policies. Earlier, Sen. Bernie Sanders pushed back against Trump’s statement that the U.S. economy was “amazing,” citing rising grocery prices, Americans living paycheck to paycheck, gaps in health coverage and homelessness. “If this is ‘amazing,’ God help us,” he said.
Last month, Khanna issued a blunt message to corporate leaders, declaring that the Democratic Party is embracing a new progressive center of gravity. According to Khanna, the progressive platform resonates with voters because it opposes foreign wars and calls for Medicare for All, universal childcare, robust union protections, and new taxes on billionaires and trillionaires. He stated that the American public responds in large numbers when leaders stand up for the working class over what he termed the “Epstein class” and the billionaire class.

The Indian American Congressman also came into the spotlight after he said he was stopped and held by Israeli settlers for more than an hour during a visit to the occupied West Bank, an incident that has renewed attention on growing concerns over settler violence in the Palestinian territory.
Khanna also recently voiced his support for New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s call for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, ahead of the foreign leader’s visit to the U.S. “The American president should arrest Netanyahu or [Russian President Vladimir] Putin in accordance with international law,” Khanna told MeidasTouch.
