X is changing the way creators can earn money on the platform, putting greater emphasis on original work as it moves away from its existing creator revenue-sharing system.
The social media platform announced on Friday, August 7, that it is ending the Creator Revenue Share Program and replacing it with a new initiative called the Original Content Rewards Program.
The move comes as X continues to deal with a growing volume of repetitive and low-quality posts, including content created primarily to generate engagement. Under the new system, X says creators who bring their own ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity and commentary to the platform will be rewarded.
“Today, we’re introducing the Original Content Rewards Program, a new way to reward creators who bring original ideas, expertise, reporting, creativity, and commentary to X,” X Creators stated in a post announcing the change.
The company added that the new program is intended to change how creators earn on the platform and place more value on the people producing content that keeps users coming back to X.

Existing creators will get final payouts
X has stopped accepting new applications for its current revenue-sharing program. Creators already enrolled in the program will continue receiving payments through September 7, 2026.
Existing members are set to receive three final payouts on August 14, August 28 and September 11.
Beginning September 8, existing Revenue Sharing members will gradually be given the option to apply for the Original Content Rewards Program, provided they meet the new eligibility requirements.
Who can qualify for X’s new program?
X has introduced several requirements for creators seeking to participate in the Original Content Rewards Program.
Applicants must:
- Have an active Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription
- Be at least 18 years old
- Have at least 500 verified followers
Have recorded at least 500,000 verified Home Timeline impressions during the previous 90 days, excluding replies
How will creators earn money?
The new system will calculate earnings based on impressions generated by eligible original content.
X said qualified impressions will be unique impressions from Premium users viewing posts on the Home Timeline, with at least 50% of the post visible.
Payments will be made every two weeks, with the first payment under the new program scheduled for August 28.
However, creators transitioning from the old Revenue Sharing Program will follow a different initial payment schedule. X said those who enroll in the new program after becoming eligible from September 8 onward will receive their first payment on September 25, 2026.
Reposted content will not qualify
One of the biggest changes is X’s focus on content originality.
Posts that simply copy another creator’s work, substantially reproduce someone else’s content or take material from another platform and upload it to X will not qualify for payouts.
The change signals a shift in how X wants to reward activity on the platform. Instead of simply tying creator earnings to engagement, the new program places more emphasis on whether the content itself is original and contributes something new to the conversation.
