Lumin Health has named noted Indian American psychiatrist Dr. Aakash Sathappan, as the new site director for its Brookline facility, expanding its clinical leadership across the Greater Boston area.
In his new role, Dr. Sathappan oversees clinical operations at the Brookline outpatient center, which focuses on treatments for patients living with treatment-resistant depression.
His responsibilities include directing patient-centered care, coordinating with community referral networks, and upholding clinical safety standards within Lumin Health’s outpatient facility.

Dr. Sathappan brings extensive academic and clinical experience to the position. A board-certified psychiatrist, he completed his medical degree at the University of Kansas School of Medicine before pursuing advanced psychiatric training and fellowship work through Harvard-affiliated institutions.
He serves as a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, directs courses for Harvard psychiatry fellows, and previously gained clinical experience at Boston Children’s Hospital.
In his clinical and academic work, Dr. Sathappan has published research on interventional psychiatric modalities and authored early clinical guidelines for obtaining informed consent when treating adolescent patients with treatment-resistant depression.
His career choice reflects an established commitment to medical education and clinical research within the broader Indian American professional community. His career showcases a trajectory centered on higher education, academic medicine, and specialized healthcare service.

“Many patients who seek this kind of care have already spent years trying to find something that works, often while feeling discouraged or overlooked,” Dr. Sathappan said regarding his appointment. “What matters most is creating an environment where treatment is both clinically rigorous and deeply supportive.”
The appointment comes amid growing national demand for interventional behavioral healthcare. While options like FDA-approved esketamine nasal spray (Spravato) and ketamine therapy are increasingly covered by insurance, care delivery often remains split between large hospital networks and home-based models.
Lumin Health operates five facilities across Massachusetts and Maryland. Through its single-site model, the organization pairs medical supervision and clear protocols with emotional support to streamline interventional mental health care for patients in the region.
