A viral video captured the moment an Amazon Prime Air drone delivered a parcel directly into a Texas woman’s swimming pool, surfacing the same week the e-commerce giant announced a major expansion of its airborne delivery service.
The customer, Lindsey Austen, ran outside with her camera after hearing the loud buzzing sound of an approaching drone to record her delivered order.
Shared by ABC7 News, the footage shows the autonomous drone hovering directly above the backyard pool, as Austen watched in anticipation, the aerial vehicle opened its compartment doors and released the package straight into the water below.

The aquatic mishap provides an ironic backdrop to Amazon’s broader corporate announcements. Just days prior, the company revealed ambitious plans to expand its Prime Air service to nearly 500 U.S. cities and towns by the end of 2026.
Amazon states the sixfold scaling effort will bring sub-30-minute deliveries of groceries, electronics, and household goods to tens of millions of customers nationwide.
Prime Air currently operates in seven states, including Texas and according to Amazon, the service holds Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 135 certification and utilizes an onboard “Detect-and-Avoid” system featuring cameras and sensors.
“Prime Air’s industry-leading Detect-and-Avoid system continuously monitors the airspace and environment around the drone. It’s similar to a trained pilot who scans the surrounding airspace, and it allows the drones to independently see and make real-time decisions while in flight,” the company explained.

According to Amazon, Prime Air “is built to operate responsibly, and the safety of the employees, customers, and communities Amazon serves is the top priority.”
The technology is designed to let autonomous aircraft continuously monitor surrounding airspace, navigate obstacles, and execute safe drop-offs independently.
While the drone avoided collisions and no bystanders were injured during the drop, the footage shows unexpected operational glitches as automated air logistics scale up toward nationwide implementation.
