The Minneapolis Police Department raided the home of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s son and arrested his roommate on weapons charges, according to reports. Law enforcement sources told Alpha News, a Minnesota-based conservative outlet, that a search warrant was executed Tuesday night and guns and ammunition were recovered from the scene. The Minneapolis Police Department arrested Abdulrahman Abdi, 22, who was booked into the Hennepin County Jail on a weapons charge, according to Alpha News.
According to reports, the arrest came after officers stopped Abdi for having a canceled license and no proof of insurance. After the vehicle was impounded, a firearm was recovered from it. Abdi was later followed to his apartment, where he was arrested without incident.

The Daily Mail reported that Abdi was previously convicted 10 times, mostly for misdemeanors, including speeding, fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, using a cellphone while driving and failing to show proof of insurance.
Neither Omar nor her son, Adnan Hirsi, was implicated in any wrongdoing. Nevertheless, the incident drew significant attention from the congresswoman’s critics. Right-wing activist Benny Johnson wrote, “Not a good look for Ilhan Omar.” Commentator Gunther Eagleman called to “deport Ilhan Omar and her family.” The report was also shared without comment by former Trump advisers Corey Lewandowski and Sean Spicer.
Last year, Omar revealed that her son had been stopped by federal immigration agents who questioned his citizenship. Omar said her son was pulled over after stopping at a Target store and was released after showing them his U.S. passport.

“Yesterday, after he made a stop at Target, he did get pulled over by [ICE] agents, and once he was able to produce his passport ID, they did let him go,” she said.
Earlier this year, Omar also drew scrutiny from critics following financial disclosures. According to a Fox News report, a filing covering 2024 showed Omar and her husband holding between $6 million and $30 million in assets. In a newly filed 2025 disclosure, however, that figure was revised to between $20,000 and $125,000. The report further stated that her husband’s venture capital advisory firm, previously valued between $5 million and $25 million, was later listed without any reported value. Omar’s office responded that the original filing overstated the family’s financial position because it relied on incomplete information.
