Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has named Indian American finance leader Maulin Patel as its chief financial officer and executive vice president, bringing a 15-year veteran of the institution to lead its overall financial strategy.
OHSU President Dr. Shereef Elnahal announced the appointment on Monday following a nationwide search. Patel, who previously served as senior vice president of finance and treasurer, will now provide strategic and financial guidance to the president, executive leadership team, and board of directors.
During his tenure at OHSU, which began in 2011, Patel has guided the university through major periods of growth, operational changes, and financial complexity. His responsibilities have encompassed budgeting, financial planning, treasury management, managed care strategy, supply chain operations, and campus real estate development.

Elnahal pointed to Patel’s focus on long-range financial planning, capital allocation, debt management, and organizational transformation to help fund OHSU’s staff, programs, and facilities.
As chief financial officer, Patel will oversee financial operations supporting the health system’s patient care, academic, research, and outreach initiatives.
Having grown up in rural eastern Oregon, he experienced firsthand how communities outside major urban centers rely on OHSU for specialized medical treatment. That perspective continues to shape his commitment to maintaining the institution’s long-term fiscal stability.

“I’m excited to partner with leaders throughout the organization to advance a service-oriented finance model across our patient care, research, academic and outreach missions that is grounded in transparency, accountability and impact,” Patel stated.
Patel holds a bachelor’s degree in finance and economics from the University of Oregon and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He has lived in Oregon for more than 40 years and has close ties to many communities OHSU serves.
Patel takes over the role from Jeff Jones, who served as interim chief financial officer beginning in December 2025.
