The Association of Indo Americans (AIA) and SEWA International-East Bay held a community remembrance and support gathering on Sept. 9 to honor victims of the devastating floods in Nepal and express solidarity with affected families and communities.
The gathering brought together community members, volunteers and supporters to remember those who lost their lives and support people affected by the disaster.
As a tribute to the victims and their families, attendees observed a minute of silence and offered prayers and condolences to those impacted by the floods.

Representatives from SEWA International-East Bay also provided information about the organization’s ongoing humanitarian response, including its fundraising campaign and relief assistance for affected communities.
The organization highlighted the urgent needs of families affected by the flooding and emphasized the importance of community support in helping provide relief and assistance on the ground.
AIA expressed its support for SEWA International’s relief efforts and called on community members, partner organizations, businesses and others in the broader AIA network to contribute to the campaign.

“In times of tragedy, our strength comes from standing together. Today, we came together not only to remember the lives lost, but also to support the families and communities facing unimaginable hardship. We encourage everyone in our community to extend their support and help SEWA International in its relief efforts.”
The gathering underscored the Bay Area Indian American community’s continuing involvement in humanitarian and community service efforts beyond the United States.
AIA and SEWA International-East Bay are encouraging individuals, families, businesses and community organizations to support ongoing relief efforts for people affected by the Nepal floods.
