A five-minute Google Meet call allegedly ended the jobs of 80 India-based customer service employees at a U.S. bank, according to an unverified Reddit post that has gone viral on X.
The post claimed that all 80 employees and their families were affected by the layoffs.
“The job market is looking tough. Stay where you are!” the X post said.

Reports said the post was originally shared on r/IndianWorkplace. The Reddit user claimed to have been part of the customer support team at a U.S. bank until the previous day.
The user said employees had been asked to work from home due to “operational reasons.” The employee, who said they were working a 6:30 p.m. shift, claimed that at 9:30 p.m., employees were invited to a Google Meet call and told that the entire Indian customer service team had been fired.
“All 80 employees! All gone … 80 families affected just with a 5min call,” the user wrote. “I feel bad that we work for these corporates who can throw us out anytime and regret that I used to work hard at my job. Also, Idk how I will get a new job! This is petty.”
The user’s post was reported on by Moneycontrol.
The post sparked a discussion about job security in the current employment landscape.
One user asked, “Sorry, OP! This is devastating. What reason did they state for this action?”
The employee claimed the company said it was “not getting the expected output from the Indian team.”
“B*llcrap!” the user responded. “Because their US team had the maximum amount of attrition, discretionary time, and would hardly get things right … Whereas we, because of job security, would always push ourselves in the name of job security!”
Another user commented, “Sad! It’s just disheartening.”
One commenter speculated that the company may have been “offloading a part of their workload.”
Other users asked about severance. The original poster replied, “No severance … for people working for 1 year, they will get 15 days pay for every year worked.”
Comments under the Indian Tech and Infra post also expressed shock at the alleged layoffs.

“Five minutes to wipe out 80 jobs is the kind of corporate efficiency nobody asked for,” one commenter said.
However, others questioned the reliability of the claim because it originated from an anonymous Reddit post and had not been independently verified.
“Yeah, Reddit. Do something better. You have 1 million followers and [you are] doing fearmongering,” another commenter said.
