Vice President JD Vance’s attempt to attack his political opponents took an unexpected turn Monday when a slip of the tongue at a campaign rally in North Carolina left the crowd laughing, and a short video of the moment went viral on social media.
Speaking at a campaign event in Greensboro, Vance was criticizing Democrats and urging voters to support Republican Senate candidate Michael Whatley. Vance said Republicans needed someone who could fight back against the “far left,” but accidentally changed the phrase to “fart left.”
The mistake could have passed as a brief slip without anyone noticing, but Vance drew attention to it himself.

Vance said, “Now, you may not even heard that, but I actually, I usually don’t misspeak, but I just called them the ‘far left,’ not the ‘far left.’ I promise that was an accident.”
The audience responded with laughter as Vance smiled and continued his speech. He spent much of his remarks criticizing Democrats and former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper, who is running for the Senate.
Vance argued that Democrats have moved too far to the left and accused Cooper of giving in to pressure from progressive organizations. He criticized Cooper’s tenure as governor over issues including identification, crime and legislation involving schools and parents.
“This November is not like the elections that most of us grew up with, where debates about taxation or how much we regulate this or that,” Vance said.

He added, “This midterm election is between people who believe this country should have a future and those who would rather see it destroyed and rebuilt from ground up.”
Fox News host Sean Hannity shared a longer video of the incident and wrote on X, “The press corps got the vapors over one word — so here is the part they will not cover,” while tagging the vice president.
Users online also drew comparisons to President Donald Trump, who has previously altered versions of the word “Democrats” as an insult. Trump has called Democrats “Dumocrats” and joked to crowds that he intentionally dropped the silent “B” from the word “dumb,” saying he was changing only “one letter.”
