Elon Musk said he will rename SpaceXAI, SpaceX’s artificial intelligence unit, to SpaceXSI, following President Donald Trump’s push to rebrand AI as “super intelligence.”
Musk announced the change on X. “Yes, we will make that change,” he said. “No more AI. SI, it’s better,” he said in another post.
The announcement follows Trump’s executive order signed Sept. 29 directing federal agencies to use the terms “super intelligence” and “SI” in place of “artificial intelligence” and “AI” in official communications, websites and policy documents. The order defines “super intelligence” as encompassing the technologies and systems covered by the existing statutory definition of artificial intelligence.

Trump mentioned the shift during the United Nations General Assembly last month. “From this point forward, all United States documents, and hopefully the world’s will be changed to use the much more accurate term ‘super’ as opposed to artificial. So it’s super intelligence,” Trump said, according to Reuters.
The executive order also directed the assistant to the president for science and technology to submit proposed legislative language within 60 days to establish a federal definition of “super intelligence.”
On the same day Trump issued the executive order, he hosted an AI summit with Sundar Pichai of Google, Dario Amodei of Anthropic, Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Greg Brockman of OpenAI, Jensen Huang of Nvidia and Musk.
The six technology leaders signed a “Joint Commitment on Frontier Responsibilities,” establishing a voluntary framework for companies to implement and self-regulate their security controls. The agreement is not legally enforceable and carries no penalties.
The rebranding of SpaceXAI comes only a few months after another major change involving the company. In July, SpaceX acquired xAI in a $1.25 trillion deal that consolidated the two companies. Renaming the division SpaceXSI would mark its second major identity change.

Before being acquired by SpaceX, xAI operated as an independent startup founded by Musk in 2023. The company later acquired X Corp., formerly known as Twitter, in March 2025.
No changes to the company’s websites or social media accounts had been made as of publication, and there was no indication of when the rebranding would take effect.
Heading into Monday, SpaceX shares were trading 0.3% higher in premarket trading at $159.47, putting them roughly 18% above the $135 IPO price at which the stock debuted in June. SpaceX stock rose 7.4% on Friday.
