The Eisenberg Awards are named in honor of the late John M. Eisenberg, a leading advocate for health care quality improvement.
“Receiving the John M. Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award is deeply personal to me because I had the privilege of knowing Dr. Eisenberg,” said Dr. Saint. “He combined intellectual rigor with genuine humility and an unwavering belief that we could – and must – do better for patients. He taught us that improving safety is not simply about finding errors; it is about listening carefully, learning together, and building systems that help good people provide safer care.”
Dr. Saint has committed his career to focusing on preventing health care-associated infections and device-related patient harm, particularly catheter-associated urinary tract infections, according to a university release.
He pioneered the implementation of scientific approaches that combine technical interventions with organizational and behavioral change. He has also helped shape national guidelines, and quality metrics, as well as evidence-based practices related to urinary catheters, central lines, hand hygiene, and infection prevention.
