Infosys Ltd. is in discussions with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) over an ongoing investigation into how the company classified certain H-1B visa holders in immigration documents submitted to U.S. government authorities.
The Indian IT services company disclosed the investigation in its financial statements for the quarter and half-year ended September 30, 2026.
“The Company is engaged in discussions with the DOJ regarding its ongoing investigation and continues its own inquiry regarding the matter,” Infosys said in the filing.
The company said it could not predict the outcome of the investigation or determine whether it would have a material adverse effect on its business and operating results. The disclosure appears under the “Government Investigation” section of its legal proceedings.

The latest investigation comes more than a decade after Infosys paid $34 million to settle a U.S. government probe into alleged immigration violations in 2013. The settlement resolved allegations that the company had improperly used B-1 business visas for employees performing work in the United States and provided misleading information about the purpose of some employees’ visits. The DOJ also cited violations involving employment eligibility verification records.
As part of the settlement, Infosys agreed to pay the penalty and strengthen its compliance procedures, including undergoing independent audits of its employment verification practices. The company disputed allegations of widespread visa fraud, and the settlement resolved the government’s claims without criminal charges.
The current investigation focuses on the classification of certain H-1B visa holders in immigration documents. Infosys has not disclosed whether the probe is connected to the 2013 settlement.
