Amazon Prime Video is emerging as a major growth engine for the e-commerce giant, with CEO Andy Jassy saying the streaming service is now generating annualized revenue in the tens of billions of dollars and has turned profitable.
Speaking during Amazon’s third-quarter earnings call on Thursday, Jassy said Prime Video’s growth is being driven by a combination of successful original shows, blockbuster movies and an expanding lineup of live sports.
The streaming platform has built momentum with popular titles such as “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “The Boys,” “Reacher,” “Fallout,” “Off Campus” and “Carrie.” Jassy also pointed to the success of films such as “Project Hail Mary” and “Verity,” saying the company’s entertainment offerings are attracting viewers across different categories.

Live sports have also become an important part of Prime Video’s strategy. Amazon has expanded its sports programming to include Thursday Night Football, NBA games, NASCAR, The Masters and UEFA Champions League soccer. Jassy said Thursday Night Football is off to its best start ever in 2026, while NBA on Prime is adding to the platform’s sports portfolio.
The latest comments build on Jassy’s earlier remarks in May, when he told investors that Prime Video had become profitable. The company is increasingly positioning its streaming business as more than just an additional benefit for Prime subscribers, with entertainment and sports helping strengthen its broader subscription business.
Beyond streaming, Jassy highlighted Amazon’s latest push into consumer devices. The company recently introduced 34 new products across its Echo, Kindle, Alexa Tablets, Fire TV, Ring and Bee product lines, calling it the most powerful device lineup Amazon has launched so far.
“It’s early, but we’re off to a very strong start and excited for more customers to get their hands on these as we head into the holidays,” Jassy said.

He also said Amazon Leo, the company’s satellite internet initiative, remains on track to begin its initial service later this year.
Despite the positive outlook for Prime Video and other businesses, Amazon shares fell sharply in after-hours trading following the release of its third-quarter earnings. Investors reacted to the company’s sales and capital expenditure guidance, which overshadowed stronger growth in its cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The market reaction showcase the pressure Amazon faces to show that its growing investments across entertainment, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and consumer technology can translate into sustained financial returns.
