Billionaire Elon Musk urged Americans to vote for the Republican Party on X, writing, “Vote red today!” The post came after the Tesla and SpaceX CEO claimed that a Democratic sweep in the 2028 elections could mean “game over for America” and stepped up his financial support for Republican candidates.
Musk faced pushback over his X post, with one prominent reply asking, “For what? More pointless wars and pedo coverups?” The comment appeared to refer to the war in Iran and the Jeffrey Epstein files.
Musk has reportedly spent hundreds of millions of dollars supporting Republicans, particularly in Texas, where several of his companies are based.

His financial backing could “single-handedly” alter the course of the midterms, said Brendan Glavin, who oversees research at OpenSecrets, a nonprofit that tracks political spending.
“One person is completely dominating and changing the landscape of how Republicans are able to spend money and defend themselves,” Glavin said.
Musk has contributed approximately $446 million to influence the 2026 midterm elections, making him the largest political donor of the election cycle, according to a Washington Post tracker based on Federal Election Commission data. Of that amount, nearly $216 million went to America PAC, the super PAC at the center of his political operation. He also contributed $168 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and $30 million to the Congressional Leadership Fund, both of which support Republican candidates.
Musk has spent the most in Texas, where he lives and has established parts of his business empire. The key Senate contest there is between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton. America PAC has funded mailers, digital advertising and other outreach to Texas voters in an effort to defeat Talarico and other Democrats.
President Donald Trump has said he would consider issuing preemptive pardons to Musk and other White House aides to protect them from potential investigations if Democrats take control of the House of Representatives after the midterm elections.
“It’s talk, but if it is talk, we’ll have to protect them,” Trump said in a podcast interview with the New York Post when asked about the possibility of House Democrats arresting Musk and seizing his assets if they gain control.
Trump said he would pardon Musk, a close ally, and other aides if he believed it was necessary to protect them, even if they had not been formally charged with any crimes.
The Trump administration has awarded Musk’s companies several additional contracts during the president’s second term that Democrats could investigate for potential preferential treatment.

These include a $5.9 billion SpaceX contract with the U.S. Space Force to help build a “space launch architecture,” a $2.29 billion contract to develop a “space data network” and a $200 million Pentagon contract with Musk’s xAI to help integrate artificial intelligence into military operations, among others.
Democrats could also investigate allegations that Musk restricted Starlink satellite access in Ukraine to pressure the country to end its war with Russia, that he pressured the Federal Aviation Administration to abandon a contract with Verizon in favor of Starlink, and the cost-cutting measures he led through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
