Meta has acquired Conductor, an artificial intelligence coding startup that allows users to build software projects by deploying multiple AI agents across parallel workspaces. Axios first reported the acquisition, which Conductor also announced in a blog post.
“I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta,” the startup’s founder and CEO, Charlie Holtz, wrote Wednesday. “We have some big, crazy plans for the next interface,” he added, teasing that the company would have “something new” for customers to use by “early next year.”
Holtz also said on X that he looked forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, head of product at the company’s Superintelligence Labs. “They’ve been on an absolute tear, and I’m convinced MSL has the highest talent density of all the labs,” he wrote.

Conductor was founded in 2024, but it launched its core product only last summer. Its agentic teams, which can be deployed in the cloud, locally or through a user’s phone, are designed to help software engineers work simultaneously on separate, compartmentalized parts of a project. The platform uses AI agents from major labs, including OpenAI and Anthropic, rather than developing its own models.
Holtz said Conductor’s core features would continue to operate as before until early next year. However, the company’s cloud service will shut down on November 20, after which it will begin deleting users’ cloud data.
Conductor said that Conductor Cloud will become read-only on November 13 and shut down on November 20. Meanwhile, Local Conductor will continue receiving new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027.
Users can transfer a cloud workspace and its chats to their Mac by right-clicking and selecting “Transfer to Local.” To download all their data, users can go to Settings → Account → Export Data.

The acquisition comes as Meta steps up its investments in artificial intelligence. The company recently announced an equity fundraising plan worth $97.5 billion, one of the largest such plans in the history of the AI industry. Nvidia, AMD and Micron have expressed interest in purchasing up to $5 billion worth of Meta’s Class A shares combined.
Meta has faced challenges keeping pace with competitors in AI services but has been working to expand its capabilities and product offerings in recent months.
In September, Meta launched Muse, a personal AI agent designed to carry out tasks on users’ behalf, including sending emails, booking travel, filling out forms and making purchases. The service has since surpassed 10 million users, according to the company.
Meta has also made several AI-related acquisitions, including Moltbook, a Reddit-like social network where AI agents powered by OpenClaw can communicate with one another.
