My way of giving back to industry, says actor
By Prabhav Hiremath
MUMBAI: Generally, aspiring actors and budding film-makers who want to be directors, editors, producers or screenwriters take the film school route and make an entry into the film industry. The other way to get a foothold is to assist an established director, the way taken by stars like Hrithik Roshan, Ranbir Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Varun Dhawan.
A new route figured out by Bollywood’s Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan, can help one reach stardom the perfect way.
The actor has expressed his desire to train two media students every year under his mentorship that will teach them the nuances of film-making and acting. The actor, who has also worked as a producer and director, says that his initiative is a way of giving back to the industry.
Sharing the reason of taking this step, Khan says, “The idea came to me some years ago….When Kiran wasn’t well, I was in the hospital and this senior doctor had seven-eight doctors under him. Every day, he would come and discuss what is happening with Kiran, and make them take notes. So these people were learning from him. If they are in the hospital doing that, I thought why shouldn’t I?â€
About the opportunity, he explains that this will be a platform for the young minds to observe him at work and at the same time him getting to learn from them as well. His explanation was supported by an example of how two interns on his about to release film ‘Dhoom 3’, observe him at performance, during discussion with crew about shots and gave him a feedback on what they think the actor should have done this way or that way. According to him, young minds come with a lot of fresh ideas and perspective which is learning for him too.
Khan believes that under his guidance, the interns will get to learn the various nuances of Bollywood like how he market a film, shooting process and pattern, and the preparation that goes before the camera rolls. The three main stages of film making, pre-production, production and post-production is what Khan claims to be a huge learning experience.
He says, “If I had the opportunity to learn from someone when I was new, I would have valued that.â€
Having started his career as a child actor in his uncle Nassir Hussain’s ‘Yaadon Ki Baarat (1973)’, his silver screen presence as a professional lead actor span 25 years with ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988)’ being his debut film.
