WASHINGTON, DC: Apple and IBM’s enterprise partnership has borne its first fruit for public consumption.
The two titans of the tech industry revealed on Tuesday that new apps in IBM’s MobileFirst for iOS are now available for iPhones and iPads.
These include apps built for Citi, Air Canada, and Sprint, and allow for a plethora of implementations such as flight planning, financial advice, customer retention, and sales assistance, to name just a few.
The first slew of apps from the IBM/Apple partnership indicate they intend to provide analytics-driven, secure software that cover a number of various industries. The apps make up one facet of the business partnership; the others being mobile device management, AppleCare tech support, and device fleet sales.
“This is a big step for iPhone and iPad in the enterprise, and we can’t wait to see the exciting new ways organizations will put iOS devices to work,†said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The business world has gone mobile, and Apple and IBM are bringing together the world’s best technology with the smartest data and analytics to help businesses redefine how work gets done.â€
Apple and IBM look set to try and impact the global business landscape with mobile apps to augment business from the micro to macro levels.
According to Bridget van Kralingen, senior vice president, the collaboration “combines IBM’s industry expertise and unmatched position in enterprise computing, with Apple’s legendary user experience and excellence in product design to lift the performance of a new generation of business professionals.â€
