In a move that reaffirms India’s growing presence in the ever-shifting landscape of the internet, Google announced it will be establishing India’s first YouTube Space. Located in the bustling hub of Mumbai, the production facility — which is only the second of its kind in Asia — will be operated in partnership with Whistling Woods International film school.
“India is seeing an emergence of a new generation of YouTube creators who are capturing the color, music, humor, and drama of India more creatively than ever before. In fact, Indian creators are now amongst the top contributors in Asia when it comes to driving time spent on YouTube watching videos,” David Macdonald, Head of YouTube Spaces in Asia Pacific, said in a blog post.
Google launched its first YouTube Space in 2012 in Los Angeles, Calif., according to International Business Times. TechCrunch elaborated that it was designed to provide a platform for YouTube filmmakers to access high-quality equipment, gain mentorship and, ultimately, produce quality content.
Spaces also host a slew of educational and creative events.
“Through this collaboration, India’s popular up-and-coming YouTube creators, as well as their students, will have free access to Whistling Woods’ studios, high-end audio, visual and editing equipment, in addition to training programs, workshops and community events,” Macdonald wrote in the blog announcement.
The new YouTube Space will be set up at Filmcity, a major nexus for film and television production in India, reported The Next Web.
Google’s latest YouTube Space is the seventh such facility that’s been established across the globe; aside from Los Angeles, the company has also has similar operations in Tokyo, London, New York, Brazil, and Berlin.
