AI-powered search engine Perplexity has plans for launching its own web browser. Perplexity announced the launch in an X post on Monday, noting that it’s “coming soon” and asked people to sign up for a waitlist.
With a tagline “A Browser for Agentic Search by Perplexity,” Perplexity revealed the name of its incoming web browser: “Comet.”
“Just like Perplexity reinvented search, we’re also reinventing the browser,” a Perplexity spokesperson told TechCrunch, adding “Stay tuned for updates.”

In October 2024, the AI company revealed that it gets around 100 million queries every week. Its revenue is about $50 million currently, up from $10 million in March 2024.
“Perplexity now serves over 100M queries every week,” Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote in a post on X. “Next stop: 100M+ queries every day.”
Perplexity has been on the rise with the AI boom, reaching a $9 billion valuation in 2024, and positioned itself among the top competitors for AI search engines in chatbot-style. The startup has launched a variety of AI tools since late 2024.
In addition to the search engine, Perplexity also launched an AI powered shopping assistant. With Buy with Pro, customers can research and buy products. This is only available to Perplexity Pro users in the U.S.
The company has unveiled a visual search tool called Snap to Shop, which helps consumers find an item by uploading a photo. Snap to Shop displays relevant products based on the photo without the need for a product description or name.
Perplexity has also recently launched Sonar API for AI search. Sonar allows developers and enterprises to build its generative AI tools using their own applications. It is available in two tiers–Sonar and Sonar Pro.

While Sonar uses lightweight models with an optimal balance of speed and cost, and offers straightforward answers with citations, Sonar Pro is built for complexity and gives in-depth answers, using robust models. It also has a larger context window, allowing for longer and more nuanced searches.
Trying to go global, Perplexity has recently announced plans to expand in France through a partnership with Bouygues Telecom.
